Underwater Conservation Communication Coordinator

 

Volunteer Position Description

The Women Diver Hall of Fame (WDHOF) seeks a person with a passion for Underwater Conservation and science communication to work with us to highlight the exciting underwater conservation actions that the WDHOF members and associates are doing. The science communication specialist will work with the Conservation lead Dr. Laura Rogers-Bennett (WDHOF class of 2017) and the WDHOF Board of Trustees to generate compelling story telling content for WDHOF website (Conservation Corner), blog, and social media channels.

Primary duties will be to work with WDHOF who are currently involved in underwater conservation efforts to highlight these projects by drafting story content both written and visual for our website, blogs, newsletter, and social media. The underwater conservation communication coordinator will be able to conduct interviews with WDHOF divers and WDHOF associates and meet monthly over Zoom with Conservation Corner lead Dr. Laura Rogers-Bennett and periodically with the WDHOF Board of Trustees.

Position: This is a volunteer position without salary

Qualifications

Applicants for WDHOF Underwater Conservation Communication Coordinator needs to have the following skill set:

· Have excellent web content creation skills

· Work well with a variety of people

· Possess excellent written and verbal science communication skills

· Be organized and able to meet deadlines

· Be passionate about Underwater and Marine Conservation

· Be self-directed and motivated

· Have some experience conducting interviews

· Have their own computer with appropriate software including Zoom and internet capabilities

 

Time Commitment and Final Project Portfolio

The WDHOF Underwater Conservation Corner Science Communication Coordinator will be expected to volunteer between 5-10 hours per week including the time spent interviewing member and associates for stories and meeting with the Dr. Laura Rogers-Bennett and the WDHOF Board of Trustees.

At the end of one year, the coordinator will pull together 6 of their best stories into a portfolio to share with the WDHOF board of trustees as a work product and this portfolio can be used by the communication coordinator for future job, graduate school or professional applications.
