Program Manager, N2

Organization
The Schmidt Family Foundation/11th Hour Project
Job Description

The Schmidt Family Foundation works to restore a balanced relationship between people and the planet through two core approaches: grantmaking and impact investing. Its primary initiatives—the 11th Hour Project and Schmidt Marine Technology Partners—support this mission. The 11th Hour Project focuses on renewable energy, food systems, ocean health, and human rights, centering equity and uplifting BIPOC and frontline communities as essential to advancing environmental and social justice.

The Program Manager for the N2 (nature + nurture) initiative within the 11th Hour Project will play a key role in supporting youth-centered, community-rooted approaches to nature access and well-being. Reporting to the N2 Program Director, the Program Manager will help shape and implement strategies that invest in national infrastructure, Indigenous-led education, and place-based programs enabling youth—especially those from BIPOC backgrounds—to thrive through outdoor experiences. The role involves grantmaking, network-building, and operational management while maintaining strong relationships with grantee partners and contributing to a collaborative, equity-driven workplace culture. With a $10 million annual portfolio, the Program Manager will be instrumental in driving systemic change at the intersection of environmental justice, youth development, and community organizing.

Compensation and Location

The Schmidt Family Foundation offers a competitive salary of $145,000-$155,000 at the Program Manager level and a best-in-class benefits package, which will be shared during the process. The Program Manager can be based in the San Francisco Bay Area or Los Angeles and is expected to work in the office three days a week. The ideal candidate will be already located in the Bay Area or Los Angeles or willing to relocate. There are no exceptions to the location requirement for the position.
