Job Description
The City of Orinda Planning Department seeks a responsible and enthusiastic college student or recent college graduate to assist the Department with a variety of tasks. The ideal candidate will have interest in local government, be able to work both independently and collaboratively, and represent the City in a manner that is professional, effective, and tactful. Working a flexible schedule of up to 20 hours per week, the Planning Intern will perform responsible work in the areas of both current and long-range planning.
The Planning Intern will be paid on an hourly basis for actual hours worked - up to a maximum of 20 hours per week.
TYPICAL FUNCTIONS
- Responds to public inquiries regarding zoning and related matters on the phone, via email, and at the Planning Counter.
- Conducts field work, including Planning Final Inspections, site visits, and code-enforcement.
- Assists staff in collecting and preparing data for various planning projects and provides support at community meetings as necessary.
- Conducts basic office functions such as data entry and file management.
- Researches and prepares routine graphic displays/exhibits for use by the Department, Planning Commission, and City Council.
- Drafts reports of limited or variable complexity.
