Nothing says autumn in Northern California like a quick trip to Apple Hill! This past weekend, EPM graduate students took a break from their schoolwork to embrace the fall season. With students from both first and second-year cohorts, it was the perfect way to take a breather from Week 7 and enjoy some seasonal fun together.
Former EPM student Carolyn Subramaniam developed a policy brief recommending folic acid fortification of corn masa flour, a staple grain for many Central and Latin American Communities. Over a year later in September 2024, her concept was signed into law.

Last November, I was approached with a fantastic opportunity to inspire hope in Davis’s youth. Julia Levine, the poet laureate of the city of Davis, had noticed in her years as a child and family psychologist that an increasing number of young adults were struggling with the realities of climate change and failing to see a bright future for themselves.
The Environmental Policy and Management Diversity Committee (EPMDC) was established in 2020 to advocate for student issues and act as a listening body for marginalized EPM students. EPMDC continues to advocate for all aspects of diversity among our students, including gender identity, sexual orientation, religious orientation, race, ethnicity, immigration status, and disabilities.
I attended and presented at the 2022 Air Sensor International Conference (ASIC) in Pasadena, California hosted by the UC Davis Air Quality Research Center on May 11-13th. It was a pleasure and great learning experience to present on behalf of my team at the California Air Resources Board (CARB) in regards to our work developing AQview.
