Bio

Cheryl was born and raised in Northern California, and spent most of her childhood on a working cattle ranch, where she developed an understanding of the relationship between humankind and the environment at an early age. This led Cheryl to complete a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering with a Minor in Mathematics from Sacramento State University, focusing her studies on water resources and environmental engineering. Cheryl first started working for the California Air Resources Board (CARB) in 2019, while still working on her B.S. degree, this work introduced her to the nexus of science, engineering, and policy. To advance her career and expand her academic knowledge, Cheryl found herself in the Environmental Policy and Management (EPM) graduate program at UC Davis. Cheryl completed the M.S. program in 2022, specializing in Climate Change Science and Policy. Cheryl is still employed by CARB, and currently works as an Air Resources Engineer in CARB’s Research Division, implementing and developing new policies to reduce emissions from short lived climate pollutants (SLCPs), specifically fluorinated gases (F-gases).
