Position: Program Leader - Mexico: The Whale and the Boojum Tree - Marine BiologyandDesert Ecology on the Baja Peninsula Organization: Student Diplomacy Corps (SDC) is a non-profit that creates scholarship-fundedtravel programs for high school students from underserved communities fromacross thenationto access dynamic summer study away programs that build college readiness, deepen empathyand unleash their potential. Working collaboratively with donors and foundations, we invest inthe voices of young people by providing merit and need-based scholarships for students todiscover the world. Group leaders spend the month of July learning alongside groups of 10brilliant young people as they travel and experience cultural immersion abroad for the first time.  All programs are experiential-learning-focused and designed to introduce students to important local topics. Location: San Diego, CA to San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico: Duration: June 28 – July 26 Description: SDC is seeking a motivated Program Leader to lead a group of high school students on an exploration of the unique environments of Mexico’s Baja peninsula. Fromamarine biology intensive at the Prescott College Kino Bay research center in Sonora, toapoeticterrestrial journey through the Valle de los Cirios, this immersive program offers students theopportunity to explore the great contrasts, unique biodiversity and rural culture of Baja. Studentsand leaders alike engage in camp outs on rustic ranchos under the stars, homestays withlocal families in Loreto BCS and snorkeling in Paruqe Nacional Cabo Pulmo - one of Mexico’s great success stories in marine conservation. Responsibilities: • Program Leadership: Lead and mentor a group of high school students throughout theduration of the program, providing guidance, support, and encouragement. • Curriculum Development: Design and implement engaging and educational activitiesthat focus on French culture, history, art, and language, tailored to the interests andneeds of the participants. • Logistical Coordination: Coordinate travel arrangements, accommodations, andactivities in collaboration with local partners and host families, ensuring smooth andefficient operations. • Safety and Well-being: Prioritize the safety and well-being of all participants, adheringto SDC's safety protocols and procedures at all times. • Cultural Immersion: Facilitate meaningful cultural exchange experiences betweenstudents and local communities, fostering mutual understanding and respect. • Academic Support: Provide academic guidance and support to students as they engage in hands-on learning experiences, encouraging critical thinking and reflection. • Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with SDC staff, students, parents, and local partners throughout the program, providing regular updates andfeedback. Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree completed plus 1-2 years of relevant work experience or graduateschool. • Proficiency in Spanish language. • Experience working with high school students in educational or leadership roles. • Knowledge in environmental sciences, camping, hiking and outdoor leadership. • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. • Ability to work effectively in diverse and challenging environments. • WFR and CPR certification (preferred). • Experience living or traveling in Mexico (preferred).
