Bio
Celeste Han is a graduate of the University of British Columbia (UBC), where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science with a concentration in Land, Air, and Water. Her academic background provided her with a solid scientific understanding of natural systems and a strong foundation in environmental sciences, including expertise in sustainability science, biostatistics, and data science. During her undergraduate studies, Celeste gained practical experience through two work terms as part of the UBC Science Co-op program, working with the federal government of Canada at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC). Within the Crop Breeding and Diversification department at AAFC, she contributed to both laboratory and field research, focusing on the development of quantitative field phenotyping methods for *Brassica napus*. She also led a project using FLIR Tools to annotate over 500 thermal images of canola field trial plots, ultimately producing a comprehensive report based on the thermal data collected. Additionally, Celeste worked with the AAFC Honey Bee Microbiome/Bioinformatics Team, where she conducted extensive literature reviews and research on the differences in pollination efficiency between wild and managed bee species. This experience honed her critical thinking skills and allowed her to contextualize her research within the broader needs of stakeholders in British Columbia's agricultural sector. As an incoming Master of Science student in the Environmental Policy and Management (EPM) program at UC Davis, Celeste aspires to build a well-rounded foundation for a career with NGOs or international organizations such as the UNEP or UNFCCC. She is committed to contributing to global initiatives that address climate change, conducting impactful environmental impact assessments, and shaping effective climate policies for a sustainable future.
