Outdoor Opportunity Intern

Summary:TheNational Caucus of Environmental Legislators (NCEL) seeks a highly motivated intern to join the team for 3 months to support our Outdoor Equity Fund roundtable in partnership with Justice Outside. The intern will assist in bill research and identifying national policy trends, legislative material creation, interviews with Outdoor Equity Fund grantees, event planning for state legislators, and outreach. The ideal candidate for this position has strong policy analysis skills, is a self-starter who can work independently as well as in a team, and has a passion for helping people to experience the many benefits of being outdoors. AboutNCEL:NCELisanationwidenetworkof over 1,200 state legislators with membership in all 50states and from both major parties. We conduct both issue-focused and regional projects, and our forums provide an opportunity for legislators to learn about emerging environmental issues and collaborate with their colleagues from other states. Responsibilities: ● Assistintracking and researching state outdoor recreation legislation. ● Supporttheconservation team in planning in-person & virtual meetings for state legislators, state officials, and advocates. ● Conductoutreachtorecruit legislators to join NCEL’s network. ● Createresources highlighting best practice legislation and findings from an in-person convening of outdoor equity fund stakeholders. ● Highlightpolicy trends and assist in writing updates for the network. Qualifications: ● Strongwritingskills and the ability to convey complex information in simple terms. ● Understandingofpolicy and the legislative process is a plus. ● Experiencewithbothqualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis is a plus. ● MusthaveexperienceinGoogleapplications and basic database management. ● Abilitytoworkindependently with strong time management skills. ● Interestorexperience with outdoor recreation and outdoor access issues as well as event planning/outreach is preferred.
