POSITION SUMMARY - This position is based in preferably Santa Barbara, CA. Other locations considered are Arlington-VA and Seattle-WA.
The Project Manager oversees multiple science projects as part of our partnership with the University of California – Santa Barbara (UCSB). The projects, collectively called the CI-UCSB Climate Solutions Collaborative (CSC) include integrated spatial planning for climate and land use change to support the implementation of natural climate solutions, marine megafauna tracking and monitoring (including whales, dolphins, sharks, marine turtles, and manta rays) to guide management of ocean environments under climate change, and impact evaluation to de-risk and scale natural climate solution models. These projects will focus on the Southeast Pacific (Costa Rica to Chile) and African rangelands. The Project Manager will oversee key aspects of these projects, in close coordination with the Project Manager’s counterpart at UCSB, over the entire project cycle including project planning, implementation, tracking, and reporting on deliverables and project status. They are a critical relationship manager between project partners, donors, and CI country program teams.
The Project Manager works to ensure project results meet project standards and project deliverables are completed on time and within budget. They establish the project work plan including staffing and capacity building needs. Not responsible for directly supervising others, though may assist in the supervision of student fellows, but may lead small ad-hoc teams and acts as a technical resource to others. They will also serve as an anchor for coordination with the respective CI field divisions and country programs where the CSC aims to inform decision-making and generate impact. This will entail maintaining open communication lines with key program staff and leading coordination on all logistics -- including travel, hiring, meeting/workshop planning, and facilitation. Possibility of managing other projects, as needed.
This is a fixed-term position with an end date of June 30, 2027, with the possibility of an extension.
