Job Description

Under supervision of a Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisor), the Scientific Aid will assist with Region’s Habitat Conservation Program’s (HabCon) Lake and Streambed Alteration (LSA) program and projects. The Scientific Aid will assist HabCon permitting staff in the evaluation of the effectiveness of mitigation and compliance measures required for the protection of fish and wildlife resources. In coordination with HabCon permitting staff, Scientific Aid will conduct site inspections to evaluate compliance with LSA agreements and monitor habitat restoration and mitigation sites as needed. The Scientific Aid will electronically track LSA compliance efforts through data entry and management, and archive LSA reports, studies, and other relevant information.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW), North Central Region is seeking motivated candidates to fill a Scientific Aid position in the Habitat Conservation Program. The position is located at the North Central Region headquarters in Rancho Cordova, CA. The office is located on the scenic American River steps from the American River Bike Trail and the Nimbus Fish Hatchery, offers free parking, and is in close proximity to light rail service and Highway 50. For those interested in a career with fish and wildlife, this position provides a hands on introduction to California's habitat conservation policies and processes. This position offers professional development opportunities and close collaboration with Region's scientific permitting staff. On-the-job mentoring and training will be provided.

The Fish and Wildlife Scientific Aid classification is a non-testing classification.
