OB SUMMARY:
This position studies basic principles of fish populations, their habitat, and survival. Assists with the implementation and monitoring of fish habitat restoration activities. Will be stationed in Hoopa, California.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Collaborates in field investigations and analyses with other tribal, state, and federal agencies.
- Manages the acquisition, maintenance, and use of equipment and supplies.
- Assists in the design and implementation of biological studies.
- Collects and analyzes biological data to determine environmental effects of present and potential use of land and water areas.
- Instructs, trains, and supervises technician staff to ensure best practices are followed when carrying out study designs and procedures for fisheries or habitat investigations.
- Organizes and analyzes data in written reports.
- Plans, assigns, schedules, and reviews work of assigned staff.
- Identifies training needs of subordinate staff.
- Schedules and oversees maintenance of equipment.
- Prepares grant applications and budgets.
- Keeps accurate technical records.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with others.
- Work flexible hours including weekends.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manages a total of 2-3 Senior Technicians and 6-10 Junior Technicians. Shares responsibility with Biologist II for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, scheduling, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
