ENGINEERING GEOLOGIST (2 vacancies)

Organization
State Water Resources Control Board
Job Description

The State Water Resources Control Board’s Division of Water Quality is seeking an Engineering Geologist to develop and implement policy recommendations to advance the use of desalinated brackish groundwater as a water supply for California communities. The position is located at 1001 I Street, 2nd Floor, Sacramento. This is a new position created to implement Governor Newsom’s August 2022 Water Supply Strategy, which directed agencies to take key actions to bolster the state’s water resilience amid intensifying climate impacts. Brackish groundwater desalination is one of a suite of approaches—including conservation, recycling water, and increasing storage and stormwater use and capture—that the state is advancing to strengthen and diversify the state’s water supplies, especially during drought.

The incumbent will work independently and collaboratively to analyze existing brackish groundwater data and literature, identify program needs, and develop recommendations to advance the development of brackish groundwater desalination as a supply to equitably increase water resilience in California while protecting groundwater and ecosystems for future generations.
