Job Description

The State Water Resources Control Board’s Division of Water Quality has an opening for an Environmental Scientist in the Surface Water Section/Industrial-Construction Unit. The position is located at 1001 I Street, 15th Floor, Sacramento, right in the heart of downtown next to light rail stations and other public transportation. Under the close supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist and consistent with good customer service practices and the goals of the State and Regional Water Board’s Strategic Plan, the incumbent is expected to be courteous and provide timely responses to internal/external customers, follow through on commitments, and to solicit and consider internal/external customer input when completing work assignments. This position is to work on National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Stormwater Construction and Industrial General Permits (Permits).

Apply scientific concepts and principles about the environment, hydrology, aquatic resources, biological resources, and habitat protection in the reissuance and implementation of the Permits. This may involve the following: support the reissuance and implementation of the statewide National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Stormwater Industrial and Construction General Permits; review and analyze stormwater data submitted by dischargers; create maps and other data visualizations; support and respond to inquiries received in the Stormwater Hep Desk; prepare effective presentation materials and make logical, comprehensible and convincing written and oral presentations at public hearings and other meetings as required; communicate effectively on various technical and intra/interagency roundtable or committees; and represent State Water Board policies before the general public, special interest groups, technical committees, and government agencies. The position is located at 1001 I Street, 15th Floor, Sacramento, right in the heart of downtown next to light rail stations and other public transportation.

Salary information – CalHR salary rules allow appointment at the entrance rate (Cal. Code Regs., tit. 2, § 599.673) of a classification. For classes with alternate ranges, placement is based on education/experience.
