Position Description

The Equity Project Manager is responsible for managing the ongoing Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity strategies of Outward Bound California (OBCA). This position works closely with the board of directors, senior leadership, and reports to the Executive Director. Core responsibilities include developing and implementing equity-focused initiatives across all levels of the organization to reach the equity goals outlined in the Strategic Plan.

Compensation & Schedule: This is a Part-Time, Hourly, Non-Exempt position. Approximately 44 hours per month with an hourly pay range of $25-$30 an hour. See website for benefits.

Location: Remote from WA, UT, CA, or OR

Outward Bound California (OBCA) is a non-profit that uses challenging experiences in outdoor settings to create social-emotional learning opportunities for our students (ages 12 and up, including adults & veterans).

Knowledge & Skills

  • Have a deep understanding and personal commitment to equity and inclusion in the outdoors 
  • Ability to develop and facilitate DEIJ trainings and content for a diverse group of staff, many with a strong equity-work background, marginalized identities, and lived experience of this work
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and collaborate across departments through an equity lens
  • Have in-depth knowledge of intersectional equity work, specifically in the non-profit and outdoor recreation sector
  • Informed about relevant laws, regulations,  industry standards and best practices as it pertains to DEIJ work in the outdoor industry

Experience

  • 5 years of experience working in racial equity, public policy, community building, strategic planning, project management, non-profit management, or a related field
  • Experience managing multiple complex projects concurrently and seeing them through to completion
  • Experience leading and implementing equity and inclusion efforts at an organization
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and/or significant  years of experience 

Onboarding Requirements (Upon Hire)

  • Able to pass a federal & Live Scan background check (cost paid for or reimbursed by OBCA)

Responsibilities

Project Management 

  • Orchestrate the implementation of the Strategic Plan’s equity-focused initiatives at all levels of the organization
  • Support the development of equity-focused initiatives, working in close collaboration with our Executive Director and leadership teams.
  • Conduct quarterly progress reviews of implementation goals & make updates as necessary 
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to identify DEIJ priorities and establish measurable objectives.
  • Lead and maintain the alignment between OBCA's and OBUSA's equity-related strategic plans

Equity Vision & Organizational Culture Work

  • Collaborate with department heads to implement equity-focused initiatives to accomplish equity goals outlined in strategic plan
  • Assess and evaluate equity goals, setting new time frames or objectives as needed 
  • Implementing the vision for org-wide work related to Equity in collaboration with the Equity Committee
  • Organizing/coordinating regular Equity-focused conversations, trainings, learning opportunities within OBCA

Communications

  • Crafts monthly communications to OBCA staff and board members to share updates on OBCA’s efforts to enhance equity, inclusion and belonging
  • Supports in the creation of external communications surrounding our Equity, Inclusion and Belonging work
  • Reviews various communications, materials and resources from across departments from an Equity lens

Consultation

  • Provides support to staff members across the organization in reviewing or analyzing workstreams to ensure they align with OBCA’s equity vision and goals
  • Reviews materials, policies, systems, or specific circumstances to ensure they are equitable, inclusive, culturally relevant, and aligned with our organizational values
