Are you an environmental scientist who would like the opportunity to help CalEPA develop and implement the statewide oversight of the California Accidental Release Prevention (CalARP) program and the Hazardous Materials Business Plan (HMBP) program? CalEPA has recently obtained independent inspection and enforcement authority for the CalARP and HMBP programs and is looking for an enthusiastic team member interested in fostering and developing a new inspection and enforcement program in addition to conducting statewide oversight of these programs and supporting local programs.

Under the supervision of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory), the Environmental Scientist performs a variety of tasks related to the statewide development, implementation, oversight, and evaluation of the CalARP program and the HMBP program, including the Area Plan program.
The Environmental Scientist conducts inspection and enforcement related duties and performs evaluations of Certified Unified Program Agencies (CUPAs) and/or participating agencies (PAs) for the implementation of the HMBP and CalARP programs. Additionally, the Environmental Scientist job duties include, but are not limited to, technical research, developing regulations, responding to statutory and regulatory inquiries, aiding in the development of policies and procedures, providing training and technical support, and providing general support for statewide program development, oversight, and implementation.
