The USFS Pacific Southwest Research Station is hiring 4 field research fellows to measure vegetation and wildlife conditions across wildfire-burned forests of the Sierra Nevada in California. We’re looking to build a field team for a new project examining the effects of frequent fire on mature and old growth forest development in an era of changing climate and disturbance. Fellows will support a team of forest and wildlife ecologists. Teams will conduct field surveys from the Plumas to the Sierra national forests during Spring-Fall 2024 in support of a two-year effort (2024-2025). We seek candidates who will contribute to the project via strong ecological fieldwork skills, teamwork, and outdoors abilities.
The position will be based out of Placerville, CA and will involve extensive travel across public lands of the Sierra Nevada. Teams will collect and enter data from field plots. Off-trail hiking with equipment will be needed to access sites. During work weeks (4 x 10 hr schedule likely), teams will often camp on public lands. Housing is provided at the Institute of Forest Genetics in Placerville, CA.
