Job Description

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sustainability and climate action initiatives with demonstrated management experience. The ideal candidate will have an in-depth understanding of climate action and sustainability policy, as well as implementation. The successful candidate will be creative and forward thinking, with a collaborative approach to engage City departments, community members and organizations, partner agencies, and a wide array of private and public organizations and businesses. The successful candidate will have in-depth experience with grants and an array of funding sources to advance an ambitious work program. They will be responsible for supporting implementation of the City’s Climate Implementation Work Plan, including oversight and guidance for numerous projects and partnerships and grant-funded work. The candidate will work on an array of complex initiatives and support diverse teams, requiring adaptable project management skills and the ability to navigate competing priorities while supporting staff needs. The position will require engagement at all levels with staff and partners, building relationships while institutionalizing sustainability across the organization. The position will require meeting facilitation and advanced presentation skills. In addition, the successful candidate will require a robust technical understanding of local sustainability issues, climate change, climate mitigation, as well as adaptation and resiliency issues. They will be motivational and uplifting, supporting a diverse team of City staff, often working to overcome complex challenges and situations.
 
This position will be located in the Office of Climate Action and Sustainability (OCAS) and report to the Climate Action Lead. OCAS is tasked with advancing the City’s carbon neutrality goals and establishing centralized climate leadership to work across the City organization. The Specialist will be an important team member and play a key role in the City’s work to achieve a more sustainable and livable community that will thrive in a changing climate.
