Role description:
Arcadis is seeking an experienced Resilience Specialist to join our Urban and Coastal Resiliency Team in the San Francisco Bay area.
In this role, you will work alongside project managers, engineers, and other technical staff to foster the success of climate adaptation and resilience planning projects in the Bay Area and nationwide. You will drive the development of project and program scopes and budgets, interact, and work with clients, and identify opportunities to provide additional mitigation and resilience support to clients.
Role accountabilities:
- Support client development and business development activities in the Bay Area, with a focus on local, state, and federal government clients.
- Manage projects and tasks in support of the development of climate resilience plans at a range of scales, from facility-level risk mitigation projects to regional resiliency action plans.
- Coordinate across technical teams to deliver a range of technical deliverables including risk and vulnerability assessments, solution development and evaluation, and implementation planning
- Support public outreach and engagement initiatives
- Facilitate project team meetings and track progress and budgets.
- Participate in client and project development opportunities, identify client needs, and assist with proposals and marketing materials.
- Complete other research and writing tasks, as necessary, to support a wide range of mitigation and resilience planning tasks and overall plan development

Qualifications & Experience:
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Public Policy, Civil/Environmental Engineering, Geography, Environmental Studies or related field
- 8 years of professional experience with urban planning, coastal management, engineering, or public policy
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Urban Planning, Public Policy, Civil/Environmental Engineering, Geography, Environmental Studies or related field
- Prior consulting experience serving as Task/Project Manager, having managed client expectations, client presentations, budgets, and managing work plans
- Seller-doer capabilities - demonstrated experience in juggling client relationships and staff development for project delivery
- Familiarity with best practices of climate resilience planning, including the use of flood hazard data and risk mitigation strategies for tidal flooding, coastal flooding, and precipitation.
- Experience developing/using/promoting digital tools, such as developing automated workflows, creating PowerBI dashboards, or making ESRI StoryMaps
- Understanding of ArcGIS including GIS map creation, geodatabase design, and feature/attribute editing.
- Experience in Python, MATLAB, R, or other relevant programming languages
- Working knowledge of federal hazard mitigation programs including FEMA/HUD grants
- Demonstrated experience in developing innovative policy and project implementation solutions
- Demonstrated success in building partnerships, consensus building, and/or dispute resolution
- Experience with client and business development activities and strategies
- Familiarity with capital project planning, including conceptual design development, environmental review, and permitting
- Experience with community outreach, meeting facilitation, working with governments, or hazard mitigation/resiliency projects.
