Job Description

As an Environmental Scientist  you will have the opportunity to:

  • Plan, organize and initiate hazardous waste transporter field inspection and investigation

related activities

  • Inspect complex hazardous waste generators, transporters, electronic waste handlers, metal recyclers/shredders, treatment, storage and disposal facilities to determine compliance with the Hazardous Waste Control Law and regulations
  • Evaluate material process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams in assessing the generation of hazardous waste and adequacy of storage treatment systems and disposal practices
  • Participate in settlement negotiations of enforcement cases (primarily related to transporters) and when necessary, represents DTSC in the pursuit of administrative, civil, and criminal enforcement actions

 

Desirable Qualifications We Look For:

  • Education or job related experience in hazardous waste or related field
  • Experience or education in toxicology (human or environmental), environmental chemistry, human or environmental exposure assessment, or public health
  • Work experience or internship in environmental and life/chemical sciences or with environmental regulations
  • Ability to communicate clearly with the public, regulated industry, and representatives of other government agencies
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Experience developing and delivering presentations on scientific, technical, or regulatory topics
  • Experience with coordinating with Local, State and Federal Agencies, and the public
