Bio

Doug Ito is the State Oil and Gas Supervisor overseeing the California Geologic Energy Management Division (CalGEM) within the Department of Conservation, bringing over 25 years of experience in public service. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​CalGEM regulates California’s oil, gas, and geothermal industries with a focus on public health, safety, and environmental protection through science and sound engineering, supporting the state’s energy needs and climate commitments.​ Before joining CalGEM, Doug served as the Director of the Consumer Protection and Enforcement Division of the California Public Utilities Commission. In this role, he was responsible for teams that regulated services provided by transportation network companies, autonomous vehicle companies, and other passenger carriers; and that investigated allegations of utility waste, fraud, and abuse. Prior to working at the Commission, Doug worked at the California Air Resources Board on a range of programs focused on the intersection of air quality and transportation. Doug has a B.S. in Environmental Policy Analysis and Planning and an M.S. in Transportation Technology and Policy, both from UC Davis.
