Natural Resource Intern

Location: American River Parkway (Hazel Ave → I-5 confluence), Carmichael/Sacramento, CA
Format: Primarily in-person fieldwork (some office time)
Term & Hours: Minimum 90 hours over 8–16 weeks (flexible schedule; some weekends)
Compensation: Unpaid volunteer internship; academic credit may be arranged through your school
Reports to: Natural Resource Manager

Role Summary

Support habitat restoration, invasive plant management, native plant garden care, and long-term monitoring along the American River Parkway. Gain practical field skills, experience coordinating volunteers, and exposure to professional restoration and data collection projects.

What You’ll Do

  • Assist with invasive plant mapping and removal
  • Help maintain native plant gardens
  • Collect GPS data and contribute to GIS and iNaturalist tracking
  • Support volunteer groups and lead at least one volunteer day a month
  • Maintain tools and assist with general trail work/upkeep

Qualifications

Minimum 90 total hours. Typical hours are scheduled weekdays between 8:30 am–4:30 pm, with occasional weekend commitments.
