Student Spotlight: Tracking Long-Term Impact in Environmental Education

As a second-year masters student in the Graduate Program of Environmental Policy and Management, Paul Ronevich is making significant contributions to a local environmental education nonprofit. Before joining UC Davis, Paul brought 16 years of experience as an environmental science teacher to the table.

For the past year, he has collaborated with Sacramento Splash, a nonprofit dedicated to ensuring "every child should be able to have an experience in nature during each grade throughout their TK-12 public schooling" (Splash, 2025).

His current research focuses on reconnecting with former Splash participants to document how these early nature experiences have influenced their lives, career paths and continued relationships with the environment (Taalib-Din, 2025).

This valuable work will be translated into presentations and materials that demonstrate Splash's lasting impact- a crucial resource a the organization pursues grants and fundraising opportunities.

This project was recently featured on Splash's blog! Visit their site to learn more about this important work, why it matters and Paul's vision for the future of environmental education.
