Job Description

This position is remote-centered and is eligible for telework up to 5 days a week, in accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy, and will be required to report to the office as needed/required. A teleworker is considered remote-centered if they work fifty percent or more of their time from an alternate work location. The successful candidate must reside in California upon appointment. Effective March 3, 2025 this position will transition to a hybrid workplace requiring a minimum of two days in-office presence per week.

This is statewide recruitment. Reporting location will be the closest OEIS office to the selected candidate’s residence.

This position will work under the general supervision of a Program and Project Supervisor.

The Electrical Safety Policy Division is seeking a Senior Policy Advisor to develop cutting edge policy and oversee implementation of efforts to reduce utility-ignited wildfires.

 
The Senior Policy Advisor will serve as an advisor to the Wildfire Safety Advisory Board (WSAB or The Board). WSAB provides advice to the Office of Energy Infrastructure Safety (Energy Safety) and to California's publicly-owned utilities on mitigating wildfire risk. The role includes working closely with Board members and a small team of staff in the WSAB Branch of the Electrical Safety Policy Division. The Senior Policy Advisor will conduct policy research on a wide variety of topics, using written materials, outreach to and interviews with experts, and original analysis; interact with Board members, colleagues at Energy Safety, and stakeholders including utility representatives; make policy recommendations; and communicate clearly in reports and presentations.

 
The Electrical Safety Policy Division is responsible for driving utilities to be smarter and more efficient in their wildfire mitigation efforts, including increasing the safety and reliability of electrical infrastructure.
