Climate and Health intern

Organization
Santa Clara County Public Health Department
Job Description

The Santa Clara County Public Health Department works to keep all county residents safe and healthy and create environments that contribute to good health. We believe great things start with good health and are focused on protecting and improving the health of everyone who lives and works in Santa Clara County.

The Climate and Health program is committed to addressing health disparities and advancing racial and environmental equity in Santa Clara County by helping communities prepare for and adapt to climate-related health risks. Funded by the CDC’s Building Resilience Against Climate Effects (BRACE) grant, the program prioritizes climate equity populations, including low-income residents, communities of color, seniors, individuals with disabilities, and those with limited English proficiency, who face disproportionate impacts from extreme heat and poor air quality.

This internship will focus on reducing these disparities by expanding the Extreme Heat Social Media Toolkit. In the summer of 2025, the campaign will deliver culturally relevant and accessible resources to help vulnerable populations prepare for and respond to heat-related health risks. By focusing on equity-priority populations, the campaign will empower communities to protect themselves while addressing systemic barriers to health and safety.

Through this work, the program aims to build climate resilience, reduce health inequities, and ensure that those most affected by climate change have the resources and tools to thrive.
