The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is searching for a Project Manager to lead exciting and challenging projects as part of the Resilient Communities Strategy within TNC California’s Climate Program. With a focus on implementing wildlife crossings and curbing sprawl, the Resilient Communities Strategy team works throughout California to protect important habitats, restore connectivity, and to reduce climate risks to both human and ecological communities. This work was highlighted in a recent video about Connecting California in the Palomar Wildlife Corridor.
The Project Manager advances TNC’s wildlife crossing demonstration projects in multiple locations. The position is focused on planning, building support for and implementing specific wildlife crossing projects by working with multiple partners and government agencies, and TNC colleagues to achieve ambitious conservation outcomes. The Project Manager will work closely with infrastructure and natural resource agencies as well as other partners and collaborators (internal and external) to ensure that crossings get built and to aid in the development of policies, legislation or other mechanisms to support strategy goals. In addition, the Project Manager will work with team members to ensure project grants and are managed as required by the grantees and will ensure that wildlife crossing projects are planned and designed within timeframes required and within budgetary restrictions.
This role is currently funded by a grant for one year. However, depending on business need and/or funding, there may be possibility of an extension.

The Project Manager is a good listener, values all voices, enjoys working with a team of collaborators, and produces high quality individual work. The ideal candidate cares about conservation, has experience with advancing wildlife crossings and is passionate about addressing the climate and biodiversity crises, while advancing the role of nature in creating healthy, equitable and resilient solutions to some of our most protracted conservation problems. Knowledge of wildlife crossings and transportation infrastructure and planning processes are necessary, and knowledge of environmental permitting, environmental laws (including CEQA) and mitigation is valuable. Experience or interest in working with diverse communities, with transportation agencies such as Caltrans and wildlife agencies, as well as stakeholders, equity groups and tribes to craft solutions that are sensitive to the needs and values of each individual and group is valuable.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- BA/BS degree and at least 5 years of experience in conservation practice or a related field (such as wildlife crossing implementation, environmental design and permitting, transportation engineering, planning or project delivery, environmental law, or land use planning), or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience managing complex or multiple projects, including staffing, workload, budget and finances under deadlines.
- Experience in partnership development, collaboration and coordination with non-profit partners, community groups and/or government agencies.
- Experience negotiating solutions, facilitating dialogues, managing expectations, and connecting with a diverse set of partners and sectors.

SALARY INFORMATION
The starting pay for this position is within the range of $73,000 – $103,125 for annual base salary. This range only applies to candidates whose country of employment is the USA and state of employment is California. The salary range for this position will the following based on location:
Riverside, San Bernadino, San Diego, Ventura, Sacramento, and most CA locations: $80,300 - $94,450
Los Angeles county and the San Francisco Bay area: $87,700 - $103,125

Where a successful candidate’s actual pay will fall within this range will be based on a variety of factors, including the candidate's location, qualifications, skills, and experience.
