THE OPPORTUNITY:
The Park District is currently recruiting for two (2) Vegetation Ecologists and these positions will be headquartered at the Park District's Administrative Office, 2950 Peralta Oaks Ct., Oakland. The hiring pools established from this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancies and additional vacancies that may occur during the one-year life of the hiring pools. Up to 50% of the time will be working in the field between Alameda and Contra Costa County.

One (1) position is housed within the Integrated Pest Management Program and will focus on noxious weed management in range and grasslands, Early Detection Rapid Response programs, mapping, monitoring, prioritizing and treating invasive weeds with chemical, mechanical and cultural IPM methods; directing and training contractors, park staff, volunteers and grazers to enhance grasslands throughout the District.

One (1) position is housed within the Wildland Vegetation Program and will be focused on planning rangeland projects in coordination with multiple stakeholders, inventory rangeland infrastructure and collect resource data like Residual Dry Matter (RDM), and play a project management role in habitat management projects.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:
Under general direction supports the vegetation management program by analyzing, monitoring, researching, and coordinating natural resources and/or community resources; and practices of vegetation and range management to enhance and protect populations of plants, including those listed by the State and Federal government as Rare, Threatened or Endangered, and to manage a livestock grazing program in support of a broader vegetation management plan; and related duties as assigned.

IDEAL CANDIDATE:

  • Is detail-oriented, well-organized, and has the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a Qualified Applicators Certification/License and/or Rangeland Manager Certification are highly desirable.
  • Is self-motivated, demonstrates initiative, and is not afraid to ask questions.
  • Loves to work collaboratively with other departments or agencies.
  • Has great customer service and public communication; can work effectively with a diverse community including ranchers, public, and regulatory agencies.
  • Is comfortable working in arduous environmental conditions, including steep and uneven terrain and inclement weather conditions
