 Student Position Description: Transportation Planning Outreach Ambassador STDT3

Hours: 10-15 hrs/week

Pay: $17.50 per hour

Role

We are looking for people passionate about inclusive transportation and UC Davis’s long-range development that would be happy engaging with community members to collect and filter feedback received at in-person outreach events and electronically.

Under the direction of the Transportation Services Supervisor, in coordination with external consultants, and staff from the Campus Planning office, engage with campus community to solicit feedback on the UC Davis transportation system. Additionally, there are times where staff will be asked to support bike events, promote education initiatives (assisting teaching or teaching) and other miscellaneous duties supporting the Bike Program. Staff is expected to be an in-field representative of Transportation Services and Campus Planning and is expected to present themselves in a safe and respectful manner.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with transport, setup, staffing and breakdown of pop-up engagement events around campus and the City of Davis.
  • Solicit input from students, staff, faculty and community members on participant perceptions and needs regarding the UC Davis transportation system.
  • Assist with map-based values exercises where participants identify what they want to protect, avoid, and create with respect to the UC Davis transportation system.
  • Review online engagement community feedback and filter responses to streamline review and analysis.
  • Attend tabling events/new student orientation and provide bicycle/traffic safety education.
  • Attend community and business meetings to help represent the University.
  • Provide excellent customer service to campus students/staff/faculty/visitors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Strong customer service skills
  • Excellent verbal communication and active listening skills
  • Ability to navigate a tablet and assist community members with mapping software
  • Ability to multi-task and perform a variety of duties
  • Valid Driver’s License and willing to be included in Pull Notice System as required by UCD Policy and Procedure Manual, 350-352. Must also take UCD Safe Driving Course
  • Ability to stand and walk and engage with the campus community for the duration of pop-up and open house events (2-3 hr. shifts).
  • Ability to drive electric/gas golf carts and provide general cart maintenance.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
