This position is open to home offices throughout the state of California. The new Stewardship Infrastructure Director should expect to travel throughout the state at least 25% of the time.

Over the past six decades, we have protected 1.4 million acres, 5,000 miles of streams, and 3.8 million acres of ocean habitat in California and off the coast.
The California Chapter believes that we are most effective when we are embedded in our state’s communities, politics, media, and environmental issues. For this reason, and to reduce our carbon footprint when meeting in person, all staff live in California, including those in a home office.

WHAT WE CAN ACHIEVE TOGETHER
The Stewardship Infrastructure Director is a key member of the Stewardship Team and oversees and maintains the California Business Unit’s physical resources, with a focus on ranch and residential structures, roads, and other physical infrastructure to support TNC’s mission. They oversee building, improvement, and maintenance of all aspects of physical infrastructure, including experience managing bidding, contracting, permitting and construction oversight for multiple seven-figure infrastructure projects, simultaneously across California.
In collaboration with Preserve teams, the Stewardship Infrastructure Director ensures that infrastructure work on TNC land is conducted in accordance with all local, county, state and federal permitting guidelines, including compliance with relevant building codes, land use ordinances, coastal zone restrictions, and state and federal environmental quality standards. They also help educate staff and Preserve users on the safe and proper use and care of facilities.
Due to the remote location, rugged geography, and communication technology challenges on many TNC lands, the Project Director must exercise careful judgment, communicate proactively, and operate with flexibility and responsiveness. The Director makes safety decisions in the absence of supervision, applying established policies and protocols in response to emergencies.
