Job Description:
Seeking a motivated Student Assistant (graduate or undergraduate) to support ongoing environmental research projects focused on greenhouse gas emissions from waste management facilities in California. The position involves working with environmental datasets, Python scripts for data analysis and visualization, assist in preparing scientific reports, and assisting with field equipment calibration and routine maintenance for emissions measurement.
The student will:
- Review and verify data collected from field sites for accuracy and completeness and use the data to run computer models comparing field measurements with model outputs.
- Assist in developing, modifying, and maintain Python scripts to process, analyze, and visualize data through plots and other graphical representations.
- Process and assist in interpret field experiment data, performing statistical analyses to identify trends, correlations, and anomalies.
- Conduct background research and literature reviews to support ongoing studies.
- Contribute to the preparation of technical reports.
- Assist with field equipment calibration and routine maintenance.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Current UC Davis undergraduate or graduate student in Environmental Engineering, Civil & Environmental Engineering, Atmospheric Science, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field.
• Experience with Python and other software such as NumPy, pandas, matplotlib, etc..
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
• Good written communication skills and data organization ability.
Preferred:
• Familiarity with environmental datasets (e.g., greenhouse gas or air quality data).
• Experience with data visualization and statistical analysis.
• Interest in environmental sustainability and climate research.
Additional Information:
This is an hourly position. The role does not include fee remission or tuition support. Employment is contingent upon current enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student (or other eligible student status) and successful completion of required onboarding through UCPath.
• Part-time: 10–20 hours per week during academic terms (up to 40 hours during breaks)
• Pay rate: $17.00-$23.25 per hour, commensurate with education, experience, and skill level
• Work location: UC Davis campus (Academic Surge) and travel to landfill sites where emissions monitoring equipment are maintained regularly.
