We are excited to announce a dynamic opportunity for a motivated leader to join our team in the Big Game Conservation Unit of the Wildlife Branch. This challenging role oversees a talented group of scientists dedicated to the conservation and management of deer, elk, bear, pronghorn, wild pig, and bighorn sheep. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate statewide species management and monitoring plans, collaborating with regional teams to ensure effective implementation.
- Provide strategic input and leadership in regional conservation initiatives, fostering collaborative relationships with Department leaders, scientists, Tribes, and diverse stakeholder groups.
- Oversee grant development within the unit and guide regional grant efforts, securing primary funding for critical positions and projects.
- Design and manage survey and modeling work to estimate and monitor big game populations, assess climate change, fire, drought, and other stressors, and make informed recommendations for hunting regulations and conservation measures.
- Work closely with the Connectivity Supervisor to understand habitat connectivity impacts on big game species, and partner with the Science Support Unit to innovate scientific protocols and modeling approaches.
