Job Description

Do you like working with people and wildlife? Are you interested in helping the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (Department) conserve the state's diverse wildlife? The Wildlife Branch's Wildlife Diversity Program is seeking an Environmental Scientist to help coordinate our Scientific Collecting Permit program. This job includes evaluating proposals for scientific research, working extensively with permit applicants, and issuing permits for wildlife research in California.

Under the supervision of the Scientific Collecting Permit Senior Environmental Scientist Supervisor in the Department's Wildlife Diversity Program, this position is responsible for assisting the Scientific Collecting Permit Coordinator and other program staff with the issuance of permits and other forms of authorization to conduct scientific research within the state. The job includes extensive coordination with academics, consultants, nonprofit groups, and other researchers across California. This position will also support core program functions related to the conservation of birds, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, and terrestrial invertebrates.

This position is a 12 month Limited Term (LT) and may be extended up to 24 months or become permanent.

If you currently have permanent status in your position and have passed probation, you have mandatory reinstatement rights into your former position at the end of this LT appointment. If you have not had prior permanent or probationary civil service status, you will be separated from state service.

During this 12-month Limited Term assignment, you will receive full health, dental, and vision benefits! You will also earn State Service and accrue monthly leave credits.
