Each year, the Sierra Nevada Alliance places 32 AmeriCorps members with partner conservation organizations throughout the Sierra Nevada mountain range in California. During their terms of service, members restore and monitor impaired Sierra watersheds, educate local residents and visitors on environmental issues, and recruit and manage volunteers for various programs. SNAP members gain skills and technical training, are mentored by outstanding environmental leaders, and provide a meaningful contribution to the communities of the Sierra Nevada.

Service Commitment: November 1, 2023 - September 30, 2024. Members make an 11-month, full-time commitment to serve a nonprofit organization or public agency in the Sierra Nevada. OPEN UNTIL FILLED
Compensation and Benefits
Monthly stipend of $2,318 per month
$10,000 Education Award
Standard health and dental insurance
Up to 240 hours of technical, ecological, and skills-development training with a $500 stipend

Positioins include: Sierra Nevada Restoration Specialist
Position Description: The River Assessment and Restoration Assistant will gain project management, restoration, assessment and outreach skills and experience on a diversity of projects at American Rivers. Assessment experience will include field work as well as desktop methods. Field assessment will include vegetation, groundwater, hydrology, fuel loading, water quality, geomorphology/topographical surveys, and other biological assessments conducted in Sierra streams and high-elevation meadows. Desktop assessment will include GIS analysis, literature reviews, and research on best management practices. The member will assist with field monitoring, data analysis, presentations, and writing. The member will gain experience with a variety of watershed restoration, protection and outreach projects.
