As a Research Social Scientist, you will perform the following duties:

  • Utilize expert knowledge and experience to coordinate and guide the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Human Dimensions Program, which investigates the effects of regulations and other drivers such as climate change, fishery disasters, other environmental stressors, broader economic and societal conditions, etc. on fishery participants, fishing communities, and other human communities.
  • Review regional and national sociocultural proposals, providing input on national priorities, coordinating research across regions through workshops, the establishments of working groups, and ongoing coordination of decision support tools. Conducts independent research.
  • Participate in NMFS, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and other working groups/committees or teams as a Subject Matter Expert providing advice and/or research on issues before the group/committee.
