Hours/schedule: 20-40 hours/week; primarily weekday, daytime hours; possibly including some evenings or weekends.
Duration: June 2023 through September 2023 (exact dates flexible, maximum of 500 hours total).

The purpose of this internship is to provide technical and policy development support to the regional transportation planning program within Metro. The intern will work closely with planning and public involvement staff on a range of assignments. The intern will gain an understanding of regional transportation policies, policy analysis and evaluation, the regional decision making process, as well as research, analysis, writing, graphic design, and public outreach skills.
The ideal candidate is a person who is enthusiastic, dedicated, and eager to learn more about the planning and transportation funding fields. This position is open to graduate students or recent graduates seeking work experience in the field of planning. Candidates should have a bachelor’s or be pursuing a master’s degree in public administration, planning, urban design, geography, or a related field.
As the Regional Planning Intern, you will:- Provide general support for an update to the Regional Transportation Plan
- Develop public information on transportation policy and analysis.
- Provide technical support for Metro staff and regional advisory committees.
- Is passionate about providing superior public service in a team environment.
- General understanding of planning principles and practices Ability to conduct research and literature review.
- Clear and succinct writing skills
- Ability to distill technical information into meaningful written and visual communication Knowledge of utilizing spreadsheets and GIS for data organization and analysis.
- Experience with graphic design programs such as Adobe Illustrator and InDesign
- Interest in working toward a career in planning or related disciplines.

Minimum qualifications:- Bachelor’s degree; OR
- Pursuing a Graduate degree; OR
- We will consider any combination of education and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.

COMPENSATION AND REPRESENTATION
Based on the Oregon Pay Equity Act requirements, Metro’s internal equity review process, and the candidates’ qualifications, the appointment will typically be made between 22.00 per hour to 24.00 per hour.
This position is eligible for overtime and is non-represented. It is classified as an Intern. Classification descriptions are typically written broadly and do not include the specific duties and responsibilities of the positions.
