Westervelt Ecological Services (WES) specializes in the restoration and conservation of wetlands, streams, and endangered species habitats in the form of conservation and mitigation banks that provide environmental mitigation and habitat services to landowners, businesses, government agencies, and land trusts throughout the state of California. We are looking for a Conservation Planner Intern to join our team in Sacramento, California.
WES is seeking a highly motivated conservation planner intern to support our Entitlement team in the development of mitigation projects. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, accountable, detail-oriented, organized, have excellent writing and interpersonal communication skills, strong computer proficiency, and work well in a team environment.
The intern will work alongside experienced planners, habitat designers, ecologists, land managers, and GIS analysts to assist in the development of mitigation projects. The intern will have exposure to and gain experience with various technical reports; CEQA documentation; local, state, and federal permitting requirements and application processes; regional conservation programs; title reports; and GIS methods and tools. The intern will also have opportunities to visit existing and proposed mitigation sites, join WES ecologists during monitoring surveys, and attend agency meetings to better understand the mitigation banking business. .
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
-Interpret and record data, conduct research and analyses.
-Contribute to environmental documents and compliance processes.
-Assist in the developing and tracking tasks associated with bank document deliverables, environmental permitting, and resource agency coordination.
-Work under supervision of a project manager or senior-level team member.
This position is expected to be a part-time summer internship, however there may be flexibility to extend the hours or duration as reasonably discussed.
Applicants must be actively pursuing a degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, or other related field at an accredited junior or four-year college.
