The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF) Committee Member

Organization
UC Davis Sustainability
Job Description

The Green Initiative Fund (TGIF) is a fund managed by the UC Davis Sustainability Office and supported by undergraduate student fees. TGIF funds are applied to approved student, staff, and faculty sustainability projects on campus. TGIF applicants gain valuable experience in grant writing and receive direct support from TGIF committee members throughout every phase of their grant’s life cycle.

TGIF has typically awarded between $150,000-$200,000 each academic year to projects that positively impact undergraduate students and the UC Davis campus. Project themes include topics such as: increasing educational opportunities, promoting environmental awareness, engaging in sustainability research, advocating for climate and environmental justice, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing energy and water efficiency, limiting the amount of waste created on campus, and encouraging healthier, more planet-friendly lifestyles.

TGIF Committee members are stewards of undergraduate fees; they read and evaluate submitted grant proposals and decide which projects to award. They will serve as project managers for funded projects and serve on 2 other subcommittees (see TGIF’s website for subcommittee descriptions). TGIF Committee Members are required to attend a weekly TGIF Committee meeting, smaller weekly subcommittee meetings, and table at campus events. TGIF committee members develop strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills while gaining hands-on experience managing multiple grant projects.

The majority of the Committee’s voting seats are to be held by undergraduate students. The 2026-27 Committee’s appointed members will include 8-10 undergraduate students, a graduate student, staff member, a faculty member, a representative from the Committee on Student Activities and Fees (COSAF), an ASUCD representative, a UC Davis Sustainability representative, and the TGIF Grant Program Manager.

The 2026-27 TGIF Committee is currently seeking to fill 3-6 undergraduate positions. To learn more about TGIF and the projects that have received TGIF funds in the past, please visit the following:
