HIRING DEPT. - FACILITIES MANAGEMENT: Utilities-Geographic Information Systems
JOB FUNCTION
Provide technical and advanced research assistance in the development, use, and update of GIS field work and data collection applications.
JOB PURPOSE
The purpose of this position is to provide advanced level technical and GIS field work and software development assistance in support of the unit’s operation and maintenance functions related to campus building, infrastructure systems, development of campus maps, and data, and maintenance to the campus building and utility drawings, specifications, equipment operating manuals, and historical archive records.
JOB DESCRIPTION
From specific directions and training provided by GIS staff, perform advanced level field surveys and assessments of campus infrastructure features, such as manholes, drainage features, and electrical equipment using mobile survey devices.
A majority of the work will be performed outdoors throughout main campus locating utility infrastructure features, assessing the visible condition of each feature, and documenting the feature’s condition with photographs and notes.
Prepare and update drawings from objectives, criteria and specific instruction supplied by GIS staff, utilizing the latest version of AutoCAD software.
Perform quality control checks and analysis of collected data.
If applicable, prepare GIS map revision requests based on field observations.
Properly utilize provided Personal Protection Equipment (PPE).
QUALIFICATIONS (Required)
• Demonstrated skill using Microsoft Word, Excel, ArcGIS, AutoCAD
• Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time
• Ability to work with construction drawings as they relate to utility infrastructure.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Excellent skills in English grammar, spelling, punctuation and dictation
• Ability to interact effectively and professionally with a broad spectrum of individuals at all levels, particularly engineers, administrators, technicians and journeyman craftspeople
• Ability to perform numerous and varied advanced level tasks simultaneously and efficiently
• Ability to work effectively with interruptions and working under pressure of time deadlines
• Must provide a valid California Driver's License and participate in the DMV Pull Notice System
