Description

The Yolo County Innovation and Technology Services Department is recruiting for interns to assist with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) projects.  Responsibilities may include creating, updating, and/or edit spatial data, maps, and field data using various programs and web applications such as, but not limited to, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Field Maps, Survey123, and Quick Capture.

The interns also assist with creating bike path layers; driving county roads to verify ending of county maintenance/road locations; and creating a comprehensive layer of conservation easements, Hub pages of projects by department, and/or dashboards with live feed to mobile field collection projects.

Note: These are unpaid internship opportunities; however, the County will work with the interns seeking to earn academic credits from their college or university.  It will be the interns' responsibility to find out what the college or university requirements are to earn those credits and communicate that information to the County to coordinate that partnership.  

The ideal candidate

  • Be familiar with ArcGIS Pro
  • Must be willing to drive for field collection projects; interns will be reimbursed at current IRS standard mileage rates, currently 67¢ per mile.

Time Commitment/Schedule
Minimum of five (5) hours per week over one (1) semester or quarter, although internship can be extended to twelve (12) months. Hours must be during business hours (Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm). Summer internships are available.

This internship may be scheduled for a combination of remote and in-person work. In-person work will be performed in Woodland, CA.

Educational Requirement

Applicant must be enrolled in an accredited college, university, or trade school majoring in or completed a coursework in Geographic Information Systems or closely related field.

Special requirement: Interns must be enrolled in at least nine (9) college quarter units or six (6) semester units throughout the duration of the internship in order to remain eligible for this internship.

License

Interns are required to possess and maintain a valid California driver's license, Class C or higher, to carry out job related duties. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a physical or mental disability may request a reasonable accommodation.

Once the department makes a selection, the candidate will be asked to schedule/participate in pre-employment exams, Department of Justice LiveScan and Drug & Alcohol Screening (Med Exam).  Internship begins shortly after pre-employment clearance.
