Come join a dynamic multidisciplinary team working to protect marine finfish populations while supporting sport fishing opportunities! California Department of Fish and Wildlife's Marine Region is seeking an individual skilled in leading development and documentation of statistically valid and innovative survey designs; taking steps to ensure that survey designs meet fishing survey and data standards; providing expert statistical and technical guidance on survey design, data collection techniques, research protocols, and statistical analysis; development and documentation of techniques for handling and analyzing detailed data; identification of new strategies for collecting, analyzing, and reporting data to meet CDFW’s responsibility to manage saltwater fisheries in a sustainable manner; and assessment of patterns in fisheries data to forecast future impacts and trends. This position will work independently and as part of a team on development of methods to generate estimates of total fishing effort, catch, and variance from California Recreational Fisheries Survey (CRFS) data. This position will also function as a prime resource person on statistical and technical guidance in support of other Marine Region sampling programs. The individual will also have the opportunity to apply their statistical knowledge by contributing to stock assessments and population modeling.
