Fisheries Analyst Position

Northern Economics, an Alaska-based applied economics consulting firm, is looking for a dynamic Fisheries Analyst to join our team remotely. Here, you’ll be at the heart of projects that impact fisheries policy and practice across the nation, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team on fascinating, meaningful projects. As part of our fisheries team, you’ll tackle challenging and important questions, from understanding the impacts of fisheries disasters on subsistence communities to exploring solutions for equitable, climate-resilient fisheries management. This role offers an opportunity to conduct interviews, analyze extensive datasets, create compelling data visualizations, and write impactful reports that drive policy and decision-making. What You’ll Do: • Work on diverse, high-impact projects with government agencies, nonprofits, NGOs, industry groups, and fishery management councils, providing information they need to navigate today’s complex fisheries landscape. • Conduct rigorous socioeconomic research, dive deep into data analysis, write effective reports, and apply creative thinking to address real-world problems. • Play a key role in projects covering everything from understanding impacts and tradeoffs under catch shares, to developing methodologies for fair and effective compensation due to offshore wind development impacts on fisheries. Who You Are: You’re an interdisciplinary thinker with a strong foundation in fisheries science, U.S. fisheries management, and socioeconomics. You love working with data and translating complex information into clear, actionable insights that can support effective management and policymaking. Box 110914 Anchorage, AK 99511 Email: [email protected] www.northerneconomics.com AK: 907-274-5600 WA: 206-747-8475 Required and Preferred Qualifications Required: • Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline; or bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline with minimum two years of relevant experience; or equivalent experience  • Demonstration of strong analytical, writing, speaking, and computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and/or equivalent spreadsheet software  • Two years applied research and writing experience (via master’s program or work experience)  • Interest and experience in fisheries management, and/or economics/social science   Preferred: • Experience working in R  • Prior experience in a consulting environment  • Experience with US federal or state fisheries management  • Ability to design, organize, and conduct interviews  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and meet deadlines  • Prior experience working remotely full-time  • Experience with managing small projects  Salary and Benefits $60,000-$105,000, depending on experience.
