The California Urban Forests Council (CaUFC) is thrilled to announce the commencement of our search for the next Executive Director (ED), following the retirement of our longtime current ED, Nancy Hughes.

Established in 1968, CaUFC stands as the pioneering urban forest organization in the United States, proudly holding 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. This unique opportunity invites a dynamic and visionary leader to guide our organization into a future marked by continued success and impact.

ABOUT THE CALIFORNIA URBAN FORESTS COUNCIL:

Our mission is clear—to enhance the health, vitality, and overall condition of California's urban and community forests through dedicated advocacy and education. We have played a pivotal role in shaping sustainable urban and community forestry practices, striving to improve the quality of life for all Californians.

CaUFC envisions thriving and prosperous communities throughout California, transformed by healthy trees and green spaces. Our commitment is steadfast in promoting and sustaining sustainable urban and community forests.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Working in tandem with the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will provide strategic direction and leadership to realize our vision, goals, objectives, and Strategic Plan. This pivotal role involves the successful implementation of the organization's vision, strategy, and overall direction.

The Executive Director will oversee the management, administration, and fiscal aspects of CaUFC and its regional councils. Key responsibilities include the development and execution of strategic initiatives, partnerships, and programs that align with CaUFC’s vision and goals. This includes mobilizing support for urban greening at local, regional, and state levels, building sustainable funding streams, increasing public awareness of CaUFC's benefits, and creating impactful research tools for effective communication, education, and advocacy.

Additionally, the Executive Director will play a crucial role in providing membership services, support, and maintaining open lines of communication with, and reports to, the CaUFC Board of Directors.
