Environmental and Economic Policy Graduate Internship

Who we are: The California Foundation on the Environment and the Economy (CFEE) is a non-profit institution that works with California state legislators, state and regulatory agencies, our Board, and guests to build consensus on our state's pressing issues of energy, water, housing, transportation, telecommunications and technology. Since 1979, CFEE has connected labor, business, local government, and environmental leaders with elected officials and policymakers to facilitate solutions-oriented and nonpartisan dialogue on California's fundamental challenges. When and where will the internship take place: CFEE is searching for graduate students to fill internship positions during the 2023/2024 academic school year. Interns will perform most work remotely, some work in the Sacramento office, and some work in the San Francisco office in order to get the full benefit of the internship. Travel to a roundtable conference in California is also expected. Travel expenses will be covered. Who we’re looking for: We’re looking for graduate students from California universities, including UCs and CSUs, who are currently pursuing a graduate degree in a discipline related to the CFEE’s mission; including but not limited to: Public Policy, Public Administration, Urban Planning, Environmental Studies, Environmental Science, International Studies, or other relevant social sciences (history, sociology, etc). CFEE is committed to extending opportunities to students from historically underserved communities. As such, we are seeking students with life experience in economically and/or environmentally disadvantaged areas. Job Description: Interns will: • gain experience researching public policy, and will focus the majority of their time on the stakeholder engagement and education that forms the core of the Foundation's mission. • have professional growth and development sessions. • conduct policy research and writing. • participate in stakeholder convenings and engagement, and provide administrative support as needed. • travel to, and participate in, roundtable conferences held in California. Previous conference locations include Napa, Lake Tahoe, Berkeley, San Diego, etc. Travel expenses will be covered. • CFEE regularly works with legislators and legislative staff on the issues of the Foundation. Work with the Senior Director of Research and Operations, Event Manager, and President and CEO. • The roundtable conferences and workshops facilitate a free and open exchange of views between top regulatory and elected officials, industry executives, labor, consumer and environmental leaders, and academic experts. • View our CFEE Impact Statement for a description of what we do and who we work with. Pay: 20 dollars per hour. Anticipated 8-12 hours per week for 16 weeks. Up to 200 hours. Work schedule: • Timeframe consistent with the academic calendar. Internships are offered in Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer semesters/quarters. • 8-12 hours per week for 16 weeks during the Fall 2023 semester. Flexible with class schedule. • Soft start date: September 1st, 2023. • Soft end date: December 17th, 2023. • Rehire possible. Qualifications: • Must be a current graduate student. • Must be attending a university in California. • Have a desire to solve environmental and economic problems. • Understanding of economically or environmentally disadvantaged communities. • Have excellent reading, writing and communication skills. • Be proficient in Google Suite and Microsoft Office Suite.
