The County of Sacramento depends on purposeful, dedicated, and innovative resources. Sacramento County is seeking a student intern with a keen interest and passion in analyzing utility resource usage, focusing on energy & water benchmarking of county-owned buildings and facilities. The position will report to the County’s Energy Program Manager to effectively update the County’s Energy Star Portfolio Manager Account, among others.
The position requires thought leadership and analytical skills to develop and advocate for energy & water efficiency solutions to achieve the County’s utility resource conservation and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction goals. Also necessary are strong organizational and communication skills as well as the ability to work independently and manage professional relationships both internally and externally.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage data entries to the County’s Energy Star Portfolio Manager Account and assist in related mandatory State reporting;
- Assist in developing and implementing an outreach plan for county-owned building utility data gathering;
- Assist in developing, monitoring, and measuring environmental performance measures for benchmarked buildings and best practice studies;
- Assist in coordinating energy policy development and greenhouse gas inventories;
- Assist in troubleshooting and/or enhancing existing energy management platform(s);
- Work with and coordinate the energy benchmarking program with the internal department and County staff.
Working Conditions: Three days a week hybrid (in-person office reporting to be discussed), 8 am to 5 pm for three (3) months with possible extension.

Requirements and Qualifications
Education: Current full-time Senior ($26.54 to $27.87/hr) or Graduate ($31.90 to $33.50/hr) student preferably majoring in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Environmental Engineering/Management, Energy Engineering, Building Sciences, Sustainability, Urban Planning, Computer/IT, or a related field.
