Environmental Scientist – Biodiversity program manager & COORDINATING TRIBAL LIaisON / Ocean Protection Council / California Natural Resources Agency  

 

The reporting location for this position is Sacramento, CA. This position will work under the direction of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory).

The California Ocean Protection Council (OPC) is hiring an Environmental Scientist (ES) to serve as a Biodiversity Program Manager & Coordinating Tribal Liaison to help advance tribal co-management and collaborative stewardship, support tribally-led research and monitoring, and ensure meaningful consideration of tribal science and Traditional Knowledges in OPC-funded projects and across state ocean and coastal programs.

 
Applicants should have a strong scientific background, demonstrated experience working with California Native American tribes, working knowledge of tribal science and/or meaningful and respectful inclusion of Traditional Knowledges in environmental policy and management, and experience working on projects and/or research related to coastal, marine, and estuarine ecosystems in California or elsewhere. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, cultural humility, the ability to become proficient in new and emerging topics, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks are a must.

Working Conditions

 

Location:

This position requires reporting in person at Natural Resources Agency headquarters located at 715 P Street in Sacramento for a minimum of two times a week. OPC staff are currently required at headquarters a minimum of two days a week, on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Flexible Work Schedule:

This position is considered Remote Centered which means the incumbent would telework 50% or more of the time within a work month from an alternate work location. The incumbent can telework with a management approved telework agreement and schedule. This position is eligible for partial teleworking in accordance with the Statewide Telework Policy, but the incumbent will be required to report to the office as needed/required.
