Job Description
As the Auke Bay Labs (ABL) Deputy Director, you'll be at the forefront of marine research and conservation efforts in Alaska, working with a team of experts in areas such as fisheries genetics, marine ecosystem research, and fisheries stock assessment. You'll be responsible for evaluating work performance, developing performance standards, and providing advice and counsel on both research and administrative matters.
In addition to leading the administrative team, you'll also manage the team that maintains all facilities and infrastructure under the ABL Division, including Ted Stevens Marine Research Institute, Little Port Walter field station, and the downtown Subport dock.
And that's not all – as ABL Deputy Director, you'll also have the opportunity to participate in AFSC Information Technology Policy Advisory Panel and AFSC Board of Directors meetings. You'll promote and maintain a safe work environment in facilities and at sea, and serve as ABL representative to the AFSC Safety Council. If that last part didn't get your pulse racing, there will also be ample opportunity for travel and helping with fieldwork if desired.Last, but not least, you’ll get to spend much of your working/waking hours chatting with the ABL director, who will impart daily wisdom and humor as required.
