What you’ll do, at a glance

Assistant Planner

  • Assist customers as a counter planner.
  • Review planning applications and development proposals for compliance with required standards.
  • Check building permit plans for compliance with required standards.
  • Prepare approval letters and staff reports for the Zoning Administrator and other advisory boards as needed.
  • Present projects to the Zoning Administrator and other advisory boards.
  • Conduct policy research and basic analysis on advanced planning initiatives.
  • Attend community meetings with supervisory staff as needed

Associate Planner

  • Manage medium size development projects including mixed-used and residential and associated environmental analysis.
  • Research and conduct more complex analysis of land use and demographic data and trends.
  • Assist with advanced planning initiatives.
  • Prepare staff reports and present projects to the Planning Commission/City Council.
  • May act as a liaison to the Architectural Advisory Committee or Historic Resources Advisory Committee
 
 

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will embrace providing excellent customer service, including working with project applicants and members of the public. In addition, the ideal candidate will possess excellent project management skills, ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities; strong analytical skills and able to synthesize and summarize complex information; will be a highly motivated and self-directed individual able to use initiative and independent judgment; will possess strong interpersonal and communication skills, including strong writing and presentation skills; and will be a team player who likes working with a variety of City staff and the public.
