Application Scoring Rubric

Applications will be evaluated based on the following criteria, with each section being weighted the same. Candidates should seek to incorporate these elements in the various parts of their application. 

A. Academic Preparedness

Academic preparation that equips them well for graduate coursework and project-based learning as evidenced by transcripts as well as statement of purpose and letters of recommendation.

B. Professional and Work Experience

Evidenced by out-of-academic work experience or professional experiences within an academic setting. A measure of maturity and workplace skills. 

C. Goal Clarity and Commitment and Alignment

Commitment to long-term professional goals. Evidence of a clear picture of a professional trajectory through the candidates statement of purpose, augmented by what letter writers say about the candidate. Goals are well-aligned with EPM, both topically and with a focus on professional skills and development (rather than thesis/ research).

D. Communication Skills

Polished, rigorous, and engaging written and verbal communication skills as evidenced through the statement of purpose, personal statement, resume and writing sample. The candidate conveys their capacities in professional communication and writing. This section should also consider what recommenders say about the student's ability to communicate effectively.

E. Personal Context

Conveys a commitment to overcoming significant obstacles despite economic disadvantage, challenging social environment or other specific experiences of hardship.  Highlights unique experiences, extracurricular activities or community participation that inspire further education and demonstrates growth, maturity and commitment to graduate study.
